R&R Barbecue: Award-Winning Eats
Barbecue has always played by its own rules, which don’t usually coincide with those of most restaurants. It takes no shame in its finger-licking messiness, its closely guarded recipe secrets or its proclivity for gigantic portions. Be that as it may, I was present at KUER’s Savory Salt Lake event last June when R&R Barbecue took home both the Celebrity Judge and the People’s Choice awards—it was a moment that made me stop and take notice. … read more
Finca: ¿Dónde está la Tapería?
At its core, Finca has embraced the Spanish concept of tapas, selections of small plates that are usually paired with wine or cocktails. Though they do offer larger entrées, there’s something both special and casual about sitting around a table with some friends to share five or six tapas options along with a few of their award-winning craft cocktails. … read more

The Litas: The Other Sunday Sisterhood
After having ridden with the Litas, I am refreshed and motivated by a group of fearless ladies who have had the same challenges and fears as me. I want to do what I can to spread the gospel of the bike to other ladies.

Squarewave Sound
“What I really find cool about synths is they find a home in a lot of genres of music. A lot of people maybe don’t think about them in that way, but they’re very versatile instruments.”
Breaking: Cyclists And Drivers Not As Chummy As Thelma And...
Salt Lake City Mayor Rosalee Kirkpatmore has taken a more forward approach in addressing the cyclist/motorist kerfuffle surrounding 300 South. At a recent City Hall meeting, she went into abuelita mode, saying, “You know, I’ve been in the city planning-game a long time. Mapping out parking spaces isn’t easy, and if there’s one thing I know about you people, it’s that you’re never happy no matter what we do."

Food Review: Rawtopia
Omar Abou-Ismail is thrilled to examine people’s expressions as they taste raw vegan food for the first time. As a skeptic by nature (and junk food vegan!), I was surprised at the palatable flavors and textures—I’ve never had anything like the food from Rawtopia. I’m sure Omar could detect the suspicion fade and turn to bliss as I stuffed my face. … read more
The Rest
The Rest is my “why Salt Lake is great” restaurant/bar of choice right now, which might be a problem, as it is so small and so special. I almost hate to share it with anyone new—not for fear that it will go away, but that there won’t be any room left for me. … read more

Mike Brown’s Monthly Dirt: Ogling the Olympics with Faye Gulini
Growing up in the Salt Lake shred scene, running into a pro shred head really isn’t a big deal. I’ve shared beers and blunts with several of them over the years, but they shall remain nameless due to the industry’s tendency toward drug testing these days. I’ve never had the chance to share a beer with a pro who got a taste of the Olympics, until Faye Gulini was kind enough to split a pitcher with me and her BF, Lil Jeff. … read more
