32 Day @ Brighton 03.02.11

32 Day @ Brighton 03.02.11

March 2nd, 2011 was not just a day, it was in fact 32 Day. The 3rd annual snowboard competition included a screaming hell track with 11 turns and a rail jam at the end of the day to boot. 130 brave shredders hucked themselves down the steep banked course. Turn five was a beast to say the least, many found themselves accidentally leaving the course after attempting that turn. As the race came to an end, the rail jam was just getting started– with riders battling for the chance at $320 cash, a board and boots. In the end Noah Lohr and Wiki Jones emerged victorious– having dominated both courses without mercy. Needless to say, 32 Day was bad ass as it always is.

SLUG Games: Construction to Destruction 03.05.11 @ Brighton

SLUG Games: Construction to Destruction 03.05.11 @ Brighton

It was an overcast Saturday at Brighton Resort, for the Construction to Destruction Jam Presented by Natural Light, Scion, and Vitamin Water. The second and final installment of the 2011 SLUG Games is now in the books. Brighton’s esteemed park crew built an exclusive course littered with transitions and construction yard features to appease competitors. It was unlike any other course the riders had seen before, and proved to be a true test of a riders creative ability to find a fluid line through the course.
Some of the best riders from around Utah showed up to take on the Construction themed venue. As the day progressed riders began finding new lines through the course, and the progression of difficulty was growing. It was a great display of progression that the SLUG Games seeks to encourage. Those on the sidelines got to enjoy the expansive vendor village, where local companies showcased their products and showed their support for the community event. … read more

Dew Tour Super-pipe at Snow-basin.

Dew Tour Super-pipe at Snow-basin.

The weekend of Feb. 11 I was able to attend and shoot the 2011 Winter Dew Tour stop  in Utah at Snowbasin. The scene at Dew Tour is one of excitement, intensity and progression. Similar in form to the X-Games, athletes go through a round of eliminations throughout the week, and the ones that make finals compete with two runs through the pipe or slope course, with the top three athletes of the event recieving trophys. Kevin Rolland of France grabbed first in mens ski superpipe and Luke Mitrani took mens first in board superpipe. Kelly Clark came in on top with womens snowboarding and Jen Hudak came in 1st in womens skiing pipe. Overall it was a pretty epic day at Snowbasin for all.

Gatorade Free-Flow Tour, Brighton.

Gatorade Free-Flow Tour, Brighton.

This past Sunday the 6th of February, the Gatorade Free-Flow Tour made its annual pit stop here at Brighton ski resort. The competitors, who were all under the age of 21, were outperforming any and all expectations, with more than a few inverts being hucked out of the pipe. Unfortunately, the slopestyle section of the competition was canceled on Saturday due to temperatures that would scare a polar bear and wind gusts that were sweeping children off the mountain. The kids throwing down in the pipe made up for lost time and KILLED it.
