Puscifer @ Capitol Theatre 11.09

Puscifer @ Capitol Theatre 11.09

Puscifer played an amazing show at Capitol Theatre on Wednesday.  Fans know that Maynard has an close connection with the desert, which he expressed clearly as he set the stage with a travel trailer, camp tables and chairs, wine (I can only asume provided courtesy of Caduceus Cellars), charcoal grill and even a prop snake.
In true Maynard-band fashion, however, the photography policy was extremely strict and, when we were allowed in, conditions were not conducive.  It is unclear to me why for the two songs photographers are allowed to shoot that the lighting is nearly nonexistant, band members keep to the shadows and are unemotive, video screens uninspiring and photographers are relegated to cramped quarters with an ackward vantage point.  It’s free press guys, help us help you.  Let the authorized press photos show the fans what you work so hard to provide them with.
Having said that, upon returning to the show (after putting my camera in storage) Maynard was personable and genuine with the audience (as always), stage lighting and video screen shows were impressive (as always) and the sound was increadible (as always).  I have seen Maynard in all his (major) various forms (Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer) and he never disappoints.  If you haven’t listened to Puscifer before, start now, and if you haven’t seen them before, do it as soon as you can.

KUER 90.1FM Radio West 10 year anniversary party @ The...

SLUG attended the KUER Radio West 10 Year Birthday party at The State Room on Thursday, November 3, 2011. The evening’s master-of-ceremonies, Doug Fabrizio, host of Radio West, entertained the packed house with his usual coalesce of academic cool, sharp whit, and fashionable boyish charm.

Local Wasatch Front bands the Legendary Porch Pounders, Fictionist and Holy Water Buffalo played sets throughout the night. All three bands had been featured on Radio West in the last couple of years.

Phantogram and Reptar @ Urban Lounge

There are many procrastinators that thought it would be easy to come across some quick tickets to Phantogram at Urban Lounge on Saturday night. Since the band had a huge following after being a part of the 2011 Twilight Summer Concert lineup, the show at Urban Lounge completely sold out a week before doors opened. For those of you that missed it, or for those that were supporting SLUG at the Garage on Beck Street, here is a sneak peak at what you missed.

Dawn of the Deck

Dawn of the Deck

What is Dawn of the Deck, you might ask yourself? Well, it’s a bunch of awesome people getting together and designing some sick graphics for skate decks, then having them lazer cut into the wood, then selling them to raise money for Skate4Homies, a non-profit orginization helping kids from low-income homes skate. It was a night full of bidding on boards, drinks, tacos, music and a halfpipe … What more could you ask for?  … read more
