Wiegedood = Gorgoroth + Merrimack

Wiegedood play a furious style of black metal that has an inherent viciousness. The tracks are longer and seep into your psyche, shaking you from the inside. The riffs are intelligent and memorable, and the songwriting is structured just right so that nothing gets stale, despite the length of the tracks. The screeching vocals, drumming pace and overall style remind me of Gorgoroth’s later work, especially Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam. Fierce from the get-go, De Doden Hebben Het Goed is honest, no-fillers-or-additives BM reminiscent of the great second-wave Scandinavian kings who came before them—bands I’m sure they admire. Though they may not be shattering any boundaries or reinventing any wheels, the album is still cool as shit and worth repeated listens … and it’s still growing on me. –Alex Coulombe
