Mirthless = Tyranny – Skepticism

Clearly, Mirthless possess the potential to make great funeral doom metal. However, most of the time this potential emerges after 10 minutes of the same riff, drawn out torturously long.

Mirthless stretch out generic death metal riffs into a series of soulless dirges, but lack a coherent or persistent atmosphere. Instead of sounding bleak and foreboding, A Dirge for Your Suicide simply sounds slow, without truly tapping into what makes bands like Skepticism and Esoteric so memorable.

Yet, it’s hard to write them off completely, as there are still moments when Mirthless demonstrate a true grasp of their doom roots. –Henry Glasheen
