Combining elements of surf, indie and contemporary rock, Jessica Maros pulls us into her world with clean, high-pitched vocals atop upbeat, fuzzy, noise pop and minimal acoustic guitars. On paper, most of these adjectives seem to contradict each other, but Maros is able to orchestrate a beautiful flow of musical ideas, ranging from the loud and wild to soft and precise. Put simply, this album manages to capture the Californian surf-rock vibe, but makes it original by adding some Tennessee twang and Southern soul. –Allison Shephard
