Review: Flowers – Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do

Produced by Bernard Butler (Suede), Do What You Want To is the startling debut from indie pop group Flowers. The album’s first track, “Young,” is a good indicator of what Flowers are all about: soaring vocals, honest, poignant lyrics and understated guitar pop, elements that transcend their sum to grow into tunes saturated with bittersweet nostalgia. Singer Rachel Kenedy’s astonishing voice stands out—spiraling down from sky-high falsettos to soft and sugar-sweet, it’s what propels each track.
