Big Black Cloud = Handicapitalist + At the Drive-In
Random discordance screeches through my stereo right as I press play. Oft instrumental, Black Friday comes across like an acid/meth hybrid trip through a poisonous snake pit in a Midwest graveyard. Even sober, I felt like I was tweaking balls. Creepy, experimental hardcore/punk crossover influences bring a harsher edge to their garage rock style. Lo-fi recording techniques add to the wall of sound. “Terror of Cosmic Loneliness” exhibits strange Spanish influences and “Wastoids” has an intense barrage of shrieking vocals, making it my favorite song on the album. Psychedelia-infused breakdowns bring the whole work together. –LeAundra Jeffs
