September SLUG Picnic 09.19 w/ Aarushi and Amishi, Flamenco Del Lago and Maestro Gabino Flores...
SLUG Picnic
For SLUG‘s third and final SLUG Picnic of 2020, we turned away from the rock and folk stylings and looked around the globe to celebrate both time-honored musical traditions and their contemporary evolutions.
On the non-music end, the September SLUG Picnic featured food truck was Salt Lake favorite Apollo Burgers, and booths hosted by local artisans Space Babes Art, The Witches Forge and Saber House Tattoo. Each of these vendors brought a unique slice of creativity, turning the Artspace Commons into a mini-local shopping mall. Once again, SLUG held a raffle that benefitted the Salt Lake Valley COVID-19 Mutual Aid group.
The night’s first performer was Maestro Gabino Flores Classical Guitarist, who’s elegant stylings brought a warmth to the event’s brisk afternoon setting. Followings Flores was a performance by the always-excellent Flamenco Del Lago trio. Led by dancer Katie Sheen-Abbott and rounded out by guitarists/vocalists Sandy Meek and Jake Abbott, Flamenco Del Lago exuded vivacity and deft technicality as they worked through their setlist.
As the sun faded out into an early fall evening, the up-and-coming duo of siblings Aarushi and Amishi Rohaj closed out the September SLUG Picnic with a joyous musical celebration. Merging the styles and sounds of classic Bollywood dance numbers with a love for Western pop music, Aarushi and Amishi closed out the 2020 SLUG Picnic series with flair.
While the September SLUG Picnic was the last for this summer season, keep an eye out for future music events from SLUG throughout the fall and winter!
