Blink-182: One More Time @ The Delta Center 07.11
Concert
On Thursday, July 11th, 2024, Blink-182 arrives at the Delta Center. There’s a cloud of black clothing (and hopefully shoes with extra support) surrounding the entrance. I hope everyone took their ibuprofen.
Landon Barker, sporting wide leg jeans, a leather jacket and a lit cigarette, sets the vibe for his gloomy-toned pop-punk set—a special night for the new artist on the scene. He sounds great amidst admitting he was nervous. He keeps the crowd entertained throughout with his lively band, leaving the crowd wanting more.
Pierce the Veil takes the stage. Keeping their lighting full of fun saturated reds, greens, and purples. The bassist, Jaime Preciado, is a mad man. Flipping is bass all over the stage and jumping off podiums. PTV is not lacking in any department. They even crush a cover of “Karma Police.” Now, this is a band I’d love to see again.
It’s time for Blink. The lights turn low, there’s a faint glow of light and smoke coming from the side of the circular stage. The trio emerges. The main riff of “Feeling This,” from their self-titled album, starts their set. Jumping up and down, the packed audience writhes with excitement. Let the nostalgia flood in. To see Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker back together is an unbelievable experience. The fans have been waiting a long time for this moment. The rest of the performance ebbs and flows, with silly, sexual lyric changes on their classic songs, plus more from their new album. Barker is known to levitate with his drums on past tours and he does not disappoint on this one. He takes to the air for his fast-paced drum solo. After he’s lowered back down, the band takes a beat to pay homage to their other side quests, like “+44” and “BoxCar Racer”. Everyone sings along as we join the band on their nostalgic journey.
The night ends with a tremendous climax of fireworks exploding from above and sperm-shaped confetti raining down on the crowd. It wouldn’t be Blink if there wasn’t some crass humor involved. After the laughs comes the last song of the night, “One More Time.” It’s bittersweet, but the perfect end. The time has come to say goodbye and the three take a final bow in unison.
