Jacqueline Whitmore owns Copperhive Vintage and is a promoter of body positivity.
This month’s SLUG Style was shot at Craft Lake City DIY Festival at the Gallivan Center at Copperhive Vintage‘s booth.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUGStyle is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

“I’ve always loved vintage. I’ve thrifted since high school. Being a plus-size person it’s hard to find clothing. Especially 15–20 years ago, it was really hard to find cool pieces in plus size—so I thrifted trying to find alternative ways,” says Whitmore. “So I have a really good eye when it comes to finding things.”

“Body positivity has changed like crazy. In the past—I would say—five years,” says Whitmore. “I even see big stores like Target catering to multiple sizes, different body types, but it also has a long way to go, too. The access to plus-size clothing is very small, having more opportunities would be awesome.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I have so many style icons—I mean, legends like Bowie and Cyndi Lauper are always at the top of my list, but recently, it’s just been indie brands,” says Whitmore. “Just pushing for different looks, Proud Mary Fashion is one of my favorite brands. She focuses on size 16 and up, and she really caters to lots of different body types.”

“I’ve lived in Salt Lake City for over 10 years. I own Copperhive Vintage, which is in ‘Sugarhood,’ so we’re kind of off 22nd and 7th,” says Whitmore. “My big thing is body positivity and fat-positive lifestyle.” Photo: @clancycoop
