Chelsi Hunsaker is a finder, stylist and mother. She is also the owner of Scoutt Shop and co-owner of Atelier , a boutique on Pierpont Avenue.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUG Style is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

“I grew up poor, I grew up with a single mom and I grew up thrifting for all my clothes,” says Hunsaker. “I think from like an early on, I decided that I wanted to dress myself if I was forced to dress second hand. And I developed my own personal taste for things such as like fabrics, and stitching, and material. I developed a real love and passion for thrifting in a way and estate sale-ing.” Photo: @clancycoop
“Scoutt Shop is a modern plus vintage curated closet. It’s the same kind of idea of a Pibs or Buffalo Exchange. I offer a buying hour where people can come and I’ll buy clothes from them for cash or credit.” It is located within Atelier. Photo: @clancycoop
“All the vintage clothes in Atelier are Scoutt Shop. So Scoutt Shop started as an online shop and then within the last year has grown a big following just off of being inside that shop,” says Hunsaker. “I want modern and vintage timeless pieces that anybody can wear for day or night.” Photo: @clancycoop
“My biggest thing is, I want the clothes to be affordable,” says Hunsaker. “I hate going into vintage shops around town and falling in love with something second hand, old, ripped up, stained, anything and having to pay $60 for it.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I’ve become recently obsessed with coffee,” says Hunsaker. “I’m managing a coffee shop downtown [The Daily] and I’ve grown this new passion for coffee. Which is so weird because like prior I used to be like, ‘coffee’s coffee.’ And now I’m like, ‘can you taste that extraction of the espresso?'” Photo: @clancycoop
“I naturally gravitate toward things. I either like them or I don’t. And not like I like them, but like my eye likes them. I’m attracted to them for a reason,” says Hunsaker. Photo: @clancycoop
“I have a son. I have a three year old son who is autistic,” says Hunsaker. “He lives for sweatpants and hoodies. He still wears his vans and he still wears checkered sweatpants. I would say he’s definitely the best dressed in his class because I care about that stuff.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I like anything that says any sort of graphic like ‘I’m the best mom.’ Or ‘Have you given your mom a hug lately.’ That’s like my favorite shirt I own,” says Hunsaker. “All the cheesy touristy shirts. Like, I have a shirt from Switzerland that’s amazing. It has these vintage cartoons all over the front of it and people dancing up and down. It’s just… anything that is on the borderline of tacky but it’s not because it has that certain color, that certain pattern, that certain fabric.” Photo: @clancycoop
