Eva’s Bakery: French Authenticity in the Heart of Salt Lake
Over the past few years, one of my favorite Downtown restaurants has been Eva. The small-plates restaurant serves a diverse selection of foods in portions manageable enough so that you can order half a dozen things and still not break the bank. Imagine my excitement when I, as SLUG Magazine’s Resident French Master TM, became aware that Eva Chef/Owner Charlie Perry had plans to open a French-style bakery just a few blocks away, Eva’s Bakery. … read more

Pie & Beer Pairing
Paying homage to our state’s extravagant Pioneer Day celebrations, we asked some local pioneer foodies to pair an appropriate menu item from their establishment with a favorite local beer available in the bottle, or on-tap inside the restaurant. Make it a merry Pie & Beer Day on July 24 by stuffing your bonnets to the brim with these tasty meals. … read more
TWODOG Wine Summer Solstice Wine Pairing Party @ The Sun...
Sure, some of the initial stages of their business model involve the snobs to the west, but Erickson and the gang are like Robin Hood in the wine game, and they offer their delicious product to us, here, and rep Utah, too. “Everything we do in Utah, we can,” says Erickson. … read more

Luna Blanca Taqueria Soft Opening 06.15
With its quaint, simple stars-and-moon motif repeated in signage throughout the restaurant, and even cut into the artfully rusted fence that surrounds the patio seating, Luna Blanca immediately establishes its identity: playful, upbeat and mindful cuisine appropriate for families yet sophisticated enough for discerning diners. … read more
Les Madeleines: Savoring is Encouraged
Throughout my culinary journeys, I’ve had the pleasure of coming across a few establishments that are holding out against the growing tide of mass-produced faux meat and trafficking cryogenically frozen vegetables from halfway across the country. These are restaurants where food is prepared to be enjoyed, not scarfed. Les Madeleines has been around for a decade, and I wish I had taken advantage of its complete culinary catalogue much earlier than I did. … read more
MAZZA MEDIA & INDUSTRY DINNER 05.19 @ 9th & 9th...
This past Sunday, Mazza hosted a private event with special dishes not normally found on their menu. Beginning at 6 p.m., the evening was made even more beautiful by the 9th and 9th location’s décor at dusk—Owner Ali Sabbah, I learned, has collected all of the lavish adornment from Lebanon, and even pieced together the elegant liquor cabinet piece by piece. The sun glinting off of the copper pillars created a gorgeous environment to enjoy specialty Middle Eastern food. … read more
Bitters and Bites @ The Leonardo 05.05
The Leonardo is known for exhibiting a wide variety of creative and innovative treasures—but the staff gets really pissed if you try to eat any of them. SLC Bites is known for organizing dining events for the citizens of Salt Lake City—but they get really pissed when you throw their food all over the walls and call it “art.” Last Sunday, May 5, a happy medium has been forged as SLC Bites teamed up with The Leonardo to bring Salt Lake “Bitters and Bites,” a culinary event in which local chefs and mixologists bring their A-game products to a crowd of hungry Utah foodies. … read more
