Beer Reviews
Last year, around this time, we discussed how to avoid green beer while celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Most of you listened, your lives have prospered, and success greets you at every corner. A few of you could not resist the hype, so now I have to take time away from my important beer snob duties to fix the damage you’ve done. … read more
Mastering Martinis: Shaken, Not Stirred
I saw the Mastering Martinis class listed on the website for the University of Utah’s Lifelong Learning Classes and knew I had to be there. You’re not supposed to drink the fist martini—they expected you to sample it and put it back in the shaker with varying degrees of vermouth. Baffling. Strange Brewin’ at the Beehive Brew Off
In July’s beer issue, we left the Beehive Brew Off in their preparations for year Number Five of their annual homebrew competition. With all entries submitted and loose ends tied, last Saturday, Aug. 3, and Sunday, Aug. 4, marked judgment day for the 253 contestants and 598 beer entries of 2013. … read more

I don’t have to tell you all that it’s been a brutally hot summer. As we enter the most intense part of the summer’s heat, you may think it’s time to push aside the more flavorful beers in your arsenal in lieu of lighter, more “refreshing” beers. You could do this, but why sacrifice taste when you can have your beer and drink it, too? … read more
Beer Pubs with History and Swagger
There is no better way to learn more about Utah’s history with beer than to take a guided tour of a few of the most charismatic pubs in Salt Lake City. On the first Thursday of the month, three pubs are crawled to, all offering insight into Salt Lake’s history. … read more
