Princess Kennedy: Growing Up Kennedy
I’m the youngest of seven children, and Brady we’re not. I thought I’d share a little insight into a prominent Mormon family that has all the real–life problems of “less important, non-title holding members.” I’m thanking god, at this point, that none of them read my column, cuz honey, I’m about to get real on you bitches! … read more
Princess Kennedy: Drag Racing
Every Monday night, RuPaul hosts a TV show that airs on the Logo Channel, a TV network (or netwerq) that is geared toward the pink side of the cable viewer, and is all gay, all day! Trust me when I say our programs are way racier than yours, the raciest being RuPaul’s aptly named Drag Race. The reality/contest show is, for all intents and purposes, “America’s Next Top Tranny.” Past challenges include photo shoots, standup comedy and singing––and queens, you better listen to Ru’s tag line: “Don’t fuck it up!” … read more
Princess Kennedy: Snow Queens
Happy Holidays er’body! Let’s talk about Salt Lake Royalty, and I don’t mean me … Royalty with real-life crowns, scepters, pomp and circumstance: the Royal Court of the Golden Spike Empire, or the RCGSE, a group of very dedicated philanthropists. … read more
Princess Kennedy: Dyslexia’s A Drag
One thing you didn’t know about the Princess is that she’s severely dyslexic. Actually, I didn’t even know this until well into my 20s, when my mother sent me a folder stuffed with my kindergarten assignments. … read more
Princess Kennedy: Sup Witches!
Who in their lifetime hasn’t wished they had magical powers? To be able to fly or ace school without ever doing anything, to obtain independent wealth, or maybe to find the perfect romance? Whatever your fantasy was, I wished to be a witch. … read more
Princess Kennedy: Memories On Main
I recently got a documentary from the library titled Salt Lake City in the 1950s. The best part of the doc was the segment on Main Street. I remember hearing stories from my parents and grandparents about the grandeur that was our modest Downtown. … read more
Princess Kennedy: Tranny’s Now a Slur
SLUG, SLUG Magazine, Princess Kennedy, Tranny, Laverne Cox, Orange is the New Black, transgender, LGBTQ, trans*, Salt Lake City, Carmen Carrera, RuPaul … read more
Princess Kennedy: Damn These Heels!
In addition to Pride, one great party I did this year was a big Pride weekend kick-off with the Utah Film Center and Damn These Heels!, their official LGBTQ and A (IDK what half of those mean) film festival. We brought out my ghoulfriend Peaches Christ, Drag Queen of the Macabre and filmmaker extraordinaire. Anyone who reads my rants knows that I am super invested in the Film Center. … read more
Princess Kennedy: Beers, Boys and Birthdays
Beer is a subject near and dear to the hearts of Salt Lake. I hated beer not too long ago—in fact, it was safe to say that I probably had my first when I moved here. I was a cocktail gal, a three-martini luncher—a bloody mary, if you will. Beer terrified me: It was a loaf of bread in a glass, and tasted like piss. … read more
Princess Kennedy: Beauty and the Bike
It’s strange that this is the first time I’ve actually written a bike-specific column for the bike issue, because I’m such an avid cyclist. I don’t drive—I never really have. In fact, I let my driver’s license expire over 15 years ago and never bothered to renew it. I’m the stereotypical city-ite who lives her life within a mile of her house, and if I can’t get there by bus, TRAX or train, then I most likely just don’t go there. If I leave the Downtown area, it’s usually on a plane. … read more
