2014 Utah Arts Festival: 06.27 with Hollering Pines, Hope &...
The second night of the Utah Arts Festival was a complete departure from the first. The sky was clear, no rain in sight, the crowds were full, and everything was generally amazing. … read more
2014 Utah Arts Festival 06.28 with Better Taste Bureau, Juana...
Having spent close to 20 hours over a three-day period at Library Square, all I saw was people enjoying the arts, presented in almost every form imaginable. There were thousands of attendees, some long lines and crowded walkways, but I personally never heard so much as an ill word exchanged between festival-goers. The festival, its attendees, and Salt Lake City should be very proud of that. … read more
Salt Lake Comic Con 2014: Ron Perlman
In response to Richie’s first question asking why he goes to events like Comic Con, “Just to get out of the house,” Perlman said. “My wife asks me to do a bunch of shit if I’m at home.” … read more
Salt Lake Comic Con 2014: Local Authors Lehua Parker and...
A tad more approachable feature at this year’s Con is the Utah Fantasy Authors Book Store—which, as you may have guessed, spotlights a number of local authors and their works. The signs at the large booth urge people to “Please Touch” the books, as well as “Pick up and read the back cover.” Within the booth, which has been set up to resemble a book store, are a half dozen or so Utah authors chatting, with anyone who comes near, about the books that they’ve written. … read more

Salt Lake Comic Con 2014: Danny Glover
While people were losing their minds over the weekend’s keynote guest, Mr. Stan Lee, next door, a half-full North Ballroom was being treated to a panel with one of the great actors of the last generation. Of course, I’m referring to Danny Glover. … read more
2014 X96 Toyota Big Ass Show
The 19th edition of X96’s Big Ass Show will unfortunately be remembered as much for the unending deluge as it will for the atmosphere and music. As unfair as that may be, a good portion of the show’s attendees were as interested in finding shelter a good portion of the time as they were in finding a good place to see the next act; the latter being a much easier task, as I imagine that only a fraction of the expected attendees actually showed up. … read more
Desert Noises and Timmy the Teeth @ Velour 12.06

Andrea Unchained: The Laurie Holden Panel
The panel, beyond the talk about Holden’s human rights work (which was the best and last part of the panel), mostly focused on Andrea, the similarities between the actress and the character, and the show, and its tight-knit cast, overall. … read more
Anthony Michael Hall: The Original Geek and a Man of...
Most of the folks who make it to these Cons seem to be decent, none so more than Anthony Michael Hall. … read more
