Chase Bardole is a bartender, musician and all-around classy guy. For SLUG ‘s November 2016 Distillery Issue, we asked him about his favorite drinks and how he looks so damn good while making them.
Special thanks to Under Current , who hosted this month’s SLUG Style within their beautiful cocktail and oyster bar.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUG Style is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

About why he dresses the way he does, Bardole says, “I have this silly quote from when I was growing up that I just lived my whole life by—but I think it’s important to me at least—[to] just live life classy, in every regard. Even the way you treat people, the way you dress … your mannerisms, in any way you see fit—just live it classy.”

“Skateboarding has been another huge influence, I think, too,” says Bardole. “I started skateboarding seriously five or six years ago, and then ever since, I’ve really enjoyed the style of it. I think skateboarding has influenced a lot of style in like every group of people.”

“Music definitely has a huge influence on my life from a young age,” says Bardole. “I met friends that were playing in bands and then I would go to their concerts and stuff. I think that really is what started shaping the way I dress and the way I present myself and the way I just act.” Photo: @clancycoop
“One of my favorite hobbies is just walking around and looking at the city and communities, because I think it’s beautiful,” says Bardole. “Salt Lake is a really beautiful city. I love just walking around and exploring—just walking down new streets that I’ve never walked down—in the middle of the night, too. That’s one of the greatest things about Salt Lake: at night, you can just be alone.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I like making every drink, and that’s why I love bartending. …I just strive to make every drink that I put out great, that everyone’s going to enjoy it,” says Bardole. “Even if I’m in the worst mood, I’ll put my full effort into each drink.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I think one of the greatest periods of time for style, especially for African Americans, was during the Civil Rights Movement,” says Bardole. “Those guys—they were doing great stuff as well—but they also looked so damn good when they were doing it, and I like that a lot.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I love shaking drinks. I like making a really good margarita when it’s just nice and has the little green hue to it and nice froth on top,” says Bardole. “I love making Negronis—any sort of Negroni variation—because those are my favorite drinks. Just three ingredients: bitters, sweet, and then you’ve got some sort of spirit—that’s brilliant. I like egg white drinks. I like the way they look. I like making them sometimes, but then sometimes I make too many of them. I’ll have to make like 60 egg white drinks and they just take a long time.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I like to just be contemporary and a little bit utilitarian,” says Bardole. “I like basic things—super simple, modern and clean lines. I never really wear a lot of graphic tees anymore.”
