It’s the perfect way to change your hair whenever you want.” She feels that developing a style is more than wearing what you see everyone else in; she believes that one must try a lot of different things and see which fit your personality best.

“I have this running joke with myself,” says Beatrice, “that I am the sixth, forgotten Spice Girl. Usually in the mornings when I’m trying to get dressed, that’s what I try to channel. I ask myself ‘what would Goth Spice wear today?’”

On nights at home, when friends come over to get together with instruments and “make noises,” the local fashion blogger sheds her darker aura and opts for a comfortable sweater and simple shoes, along with her favorite pair of perfectly worn in Levi’s.

Black on black on black. No matter if she’s off to a show at The Depot, gallivanting about Salt Lake City’s Gallery Stroll or making the occasional trip south to Velour, Poulsen knows that sometimes the best way to stand out in a crowd is simply done by wearing only one color.
“I love shoes,” says Beatrice Poulsen. “I can show you my embarrassing shoe collection. If it has a platform, I like it—things that are high or low, chunky heels, anything really.” Here Beatrice stands in front of her hallowed shoe collection, complete with shelving to house the always-growing brood.
Whether it’s brunch at The Copper Onion or trips to the local vintage flea market, Poulsen keeps it simple with a medium sized bag packed with a few essentials including: phone, charger and at least 12 different kinds of lipstick. “Because, well, you just never know,” she says.
Poulsen swears by high-waisted pants. “Because, as a ‘girl with curves,’” she says, “they’re the only thing that look good on me.” She also says that this season she has been favoring a lot of velvet. “People say you can only wear velvet in the fall or winter, but I like wearing velvet all year long. Oh, and anything sparkly.”
Striking is a word Poulsen used to describe her style, but by that she didn’t mean that she needed glamorous clothes to stand out in some annoying or overwhelming way. She achieves this by wearing something that would make a passerby more curious. Wearing a vintage plaid dress with Doc Martin sandals, Beatrice is echoing a some long forgotten grungy summertime look that is lost somewhere between now and the 90s.

Sometimes, committing to form, rather than function, is a decision a graveyard girl has to live with. Deciding on whether to be more comfortable than fashionable is sometimes a win/lose situation, so when Poulsen can, she makes sure to find a pair of shoes that can look good, but won’t punish her feet.
