Megan Davies is a mother, artist, feminist and activist. She is a cosmetic tattoo artist and offers eyebrow microblading at Lonely Hearts Club Tattoo, which Megan owns with her husband, tattoo artist Troy Trujillo.
This month’s SLUG Style was shot at Lonely Hearts Club Tattoo, located at 11 E. 400 South in Salt Lake City, which specializes in American traditional tattoos.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUGStyle is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

“It’s intimidating to go into a tattoo shop, and so people usually do bring friends for the support,” says Davies. “I think that usually when people walk into our shop, they feel welcomed … We get that a lot, that [visitors are] like, ‘Oh my gosh, you guys are nice.'” Photo: @clancycoop
On her stylistic influences, Davies says, “I would say Mona from KaS Product. it’s a French cold wave band in the late ’70s. I think she was a really powerful female that was pretty fearless, but also she was beautiful. I would say also Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance—it definitely was an avant-garde, post-punk type, gothic style that came out back then.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I definitely prefer the American, traditional, bold style of tattooing,” says Davies. “That’s pretty much all we do here—we don’t really do portraits and stuff like that, so we kind of stick to what we’re known for.” Photo: @clancycoop
“When I was younger, I was into punk rock,” says Davies. “That was my joy and got me through high school … I definitely derive a lot of my style from punk rock and metal and hardcore, and stuff like that. But I think the music that I tend to really listen to a lot of is darkwave, post-punk, goth … and so I think that a lot of my style influence probably comes from that.” Photo: @clancycoop
“If I go to the grocery store, I’ll wear the flowy pants or something like that, like these pants,” says Davies. “I’m usually very comfortable. That’s the most important to me.” Photo: @clancycoop
“I think that I have very starkly contrasting aspects in my personality and I think that that comes out through how I dress,” says Davies. “There is that Arwen from Lord of the Rings–esque, with flowy dresses, and I used to have really long and wavy hair. Then there’s that part of me, too, that is very dark and is drawn to the dark.” Photo: @clancycoop
