Meagan Gonsalves-Vorwald is a librarian at the Corinne and Jack Sweet City Library Branch, a literature buff and a self-proclaimed super nerd.
Special thanks to the Salt Lake City Public Library, who hosted this month’s SLUG Style in their beautiful downtown location.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUGStyle is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

“I was a book seller for about six years, and then one day there was just a lightbulb moment of, ‘Oh, I should be a librarian,'” says Gonsalves-Vorwald. “I can’t believe it took me that long to even think of it.”

“I love Disney and Disneyland, and I am not afraid to share that,” says Gonsalves-Vorwald. “I love Star Wars—clearly, as I am wearing an Ewok sweater—and I have a skirt, and I have a BB-8 purse. I love Star Wars. I’m really passionate about my books. So if I’m really into something, I am very into it and everybody knows it. I don’t care if they don’t think that it’s cool.”

“Whenever I would get dressed up, I would always dress in retro fashions. It just always made me so happy, and it was like, ‘Well, why do I only have to do this when I get dressed up for a wedding or something?’ I can do it all the time because it makes me so happy,” says Gonsalves-Vorwald.

“I’m a teen librarian, so I spend a lot of time talking about books and teenagers, and trying to get teenagers to think that books and libraries are important, which they do,” says Gonsalves-Vorwald. “It’s amazing. People have all these misconceptions about teenagers, and their attitude, and the jadedness, and that’s not at all what I’ve found as a teen librarian. I love it.” Photo: @clancycoop
“It’s been fun since Instagram became so big, because there’s a lot of Instagram people who dress this way too, so that was a fun thing to find,” says Gonsalves-Vorwald. “That like … there’s this little community out there who also enjoys dressing this way. And always has.”
