The other half of the brother-sister ownership, Helen Wade-Joice, draws her style from the staples and rudimentary pieces adorning the shelves at The Stockist. “I personally love a classic, simple style. When I walk into a room, I want people to notice me, but I don’t need to be the center of everyone’s conversation,” she says. “I try to combine new trends with old and keep it very wearable.”
Being a mother and shop owner, Helen also keeps her style functional to fit the various duties she adheres to throughout the day. “My wardrobe fits my lifestyle. I have to be able to chase [Isla] around the playground, but also be able to walk into any establishment and look presentable,” says Helen.
Every month, SLUG Style features a distinct and unique member of the community and asks them why they do what they do. Exploring more than just clothing, SLUG Style is an attempt to feature the people who give Salt Lake City flavor through personality and panache.

One thing that heavily inspires Helen’s style is her daughter. “I think I’ve become more aware of my fashion since I’ve become a mom because I don’t want to fall into the category of ‘I’m a mom; I don’t care anymore.’ I want my daughter to look up to me and say that my mom works hard and still looks good,” Helen says.

On nights in, Helen spends time with her daughter and husband, usually in a T-shirt and jeans or sweats. She enjoys not having to worry about her appearance around her family as they read books, cook dinner and play with their two family dogs.
Comfort is a large part of this functionality. Helen finds a balance between comfort and fashion with a good pair of skinny jeans, basic tee, and an interesting piece to liven up the outfit. An easy and stylish way to achieve this, for Helen, is with a great cardigan. A colored knit or pattern is a simple way for her to dress an outfit up or down. Like Ian, Helen also has a growing collection of boots, specifically ankle boots, which have become a part of her everyday look.
Whether heading to the bar for a casual beer or seeing a performance at the theater, Helen prefers to be comfortable and chic on nights out. One of her favorite pieces is this jumpsuit, though she does appreciate the look of a dress for the right event. “Owning The Stockist has allowed me to meet a bunch of great people I would have never known,” says Helen. “These new friends are what inspire me.”
Helen is also creative with her nail polish and admits that this and her wedding ring are the only accessories she likes to wear. She has never even had her ears pierced!
