In 1982, DJ Ralph “Von” Richthoven had the idea of creating a music project revolving around disco and funk with an emphasis on bass guitar. He enlisted two of Bremen’s prettiest women to handle vocals and found Eastern musicians through local, Turkish-Communist parties. The result is a truly one of a kind album that could’ve influenced modern synth pop artists from Hot Chip to Zola Jesus. Richthoven wanted the lead vocalist to have a deep talking voice like a rapper, which gives the album a sexy, cool feel among world sounds. My mind was blown when I first listened to this record.
