Music

Tycho’s performance at the Ogden Twilight Series’ final show of 2024 was a mesmerizing blend of musical and visual artistry, set against the backdrop of Ogden Amphitheater with the moon hanging over the stage that perfectly complemented Tycho’s ambient electronic soundscapes.

As the night unfolded, Scott Hansen, the creative force behind Tycho, led the audience through a journey with tracks from his latest album Infinite Health. They began the set with a live rendition of “Phantom” which was enchanting, with its pulsating beats and ethereal melodies that seemed to dance with the moonlight. Hansen’s collaboration with Zac Brown on guitar added a rich, organic layer to the electronic foundation, making each note resonate with a nocturnal warmth.

Zac Brown’s guitar work was impeccable, providing both subtle textures and driving force, especially during tracks like “A Walk,” where his solos were both a highlight and a testament to his skill. Billy Kim, often behind the scenes but crucial to Tycho’s sound, contributed with his synths and effects, creating an immersive atmosphere that enveloped the audience under the moonlit sky.

Rory O’Connor on drums was the heartbeat of the performance. His dynamic drumming kept the rhythm and added unexpected layers of depth, especially during the more experimental tracks where his ability to transition from soft, ambient beats to more aggressive, driving rhythms was on full display.

The visual aspect of the concert was equally captivating, with projections and lighting synchronized to the music, creating a synesthetic experience under the moon’s watchful eye. The crowd—a mix of longtime fans and newcomers—was visibly moved, swaying and lost in the moment, a testament to Tycho’s ability to connect on an emotional level with their audience.

Ogden Twilight’s final show of the year was not just a concert, but a journey through sound and light, leaving everyone with a renewed appreciation for Tycho’s ever-evolving artistry.
