Add a Dash of Local Art: George Gundlach
Each month, SLUG features a local artist and their work on the west wall of the café in Whole Foods at Trolley Square. We asked January’s artist, George Gundlach to come by the SLUG office to create a personal piece just for SLUG, out of whatever we had lying around. We gave him the January 2012 issue, some paints, old colored pencils and some modge podge to see what he could come up with. … read more
Comedy: Marc Maron @ Wiseguys 01.14
To say that I’ve been waiting to have comedian Marc Maron tell me he loves me for ten years would be an understatement. It’s closer to fifteen—ever since I first saw him on TV. … read more
Nurses @ Kilby 01.14
When it comes to West Coast experimental pop/freak-folk outfits, I typically gloss over their reviews or any sizable mention in the press, since they’re not usually my cup of tea. As for Nurses, there’s something inextricable which compels me to grant their tracks more listens per usual—even placing certain songs on mixtapes. Fortunately, I was bestowed the chance to investigate this dilemmatic phenomenon by witnessing them live at Kilby. … read more

The Queen of Versailles
Rather than going the been-there-done-that route of a rags to riches story, director Lauren Greenfield accidently (yet exquisitely) delivers a riches to rags tale with the intimate glimpse into the wealthy lives of David and Jackie Siegel.
We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists
From the prankster beginnings of early hacktivist groups and the awkward birth of Anonymous from the loins of the website 4Chan, documentary filmmaker Brian Knappenberger follows the sometimes slow, sometimes mind-blowing-ly fast development of the hacktivist movement. Through interviews with former and current Anonymous members, footage taken by the activists themselves and some very impressive editing, We Are Legion presents a surprisingly historically correct version of past events that no newsroom would approve of.

West of Memphis
In 1993, three young boys were found viciously beaten and murdered in the small town of West Memphis, Arkansas. Less than a year later, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin were convicted of the crime, even though the prosecutions’ evidence was feeble and speculative. Almost 18 years later, the three wrongfully convicted men still claim their innocence and fight to overturn the injustices that have destroyed the larger part of their lives.
Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie
Fans of Eric Wareheim and Tim Heidecker’s bizarre comedic styles know their fandom resides in the cult territory and that’s perfectly fine with them, but their dedication of the forum may come into question after witnessing the duo’s first attempt at a feature-length film. … read more
