Honestly, I went into this show with low expectations. Sure, I listened to Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness in Jr. high school. I bought the Aeroplane Flies High box set. I was one of the disappointed when Adore came out sans Jimmy Chamberlain (and sans rocking), who slowly converted to the album’s beauty. Just last week Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company got its 2010/2011 season off to an energetic start with a presentation of Configurations. This show included pieces by four different choreographers, working on either the regional or international level. SCDG/JCDG Double Header on 09.25
Saturday Sept. 25 was Salt City Derby Girls return to Salt Lake after being up north. To start off the double header, there was a bout between Junction City Roller Derby and Salt City Roller Derby. The bout was a charity bout benefitting the Road Home. Fans were asked to donate items like canned food, blankets, etc. The teams were both divided into the Black Mambas and the White Lightning, with members from each league playing together on the same teams. … read more

Active Child and School of Seven Bells @ Urban Lounge...
I wasn’t really sure what kind of a show I was getting myself into, but I’d heard both Active Child and School of Seven Bells on a few occasions and remembered good things, so off to Urban Lounge I went. I arrived a little late (shows that start on time?! genius!), but when I got through the doors, an ethereal, crisp vibe filled the room. It was like Tears For Fears somehow made it to 2010 and turned into one person—in the best way possible.

Great American Beer Festival 2010
It was the time of the year your most loyal brewpub patrons are out of town. That picky guy at the liquor store has vanished. Saturday Oct. 2 was Utah’s first annual roller derby tournament, Mountain Throwdown. This is pretty big stuff. Utah is stepping up its roller derby game. The tournament was comprised of three of Utah’s four all girl roller derby leagues: Salt Lake’s Salt City Derby Girls, Ogden’s Junction City Roller Dolls and O-Town Derby Dames.
