Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival @ Golden Gate Park,...
The third annual Outside Lands, held in the Polo Field and Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park, featured an extremely slimmed down lineup than the previous years. Without the big names from 2008 and 2009, the festival was much smaller, and many people in the community were disappointed with the “biggest” headliner, Kings of Leon. I read an article in SF Weekly prior to the event that began, “Kings of Leon…really?” … read more
Deftones @ The Rail
Back in 1997 when I was just a young awkward unstable junior high kid who had just entered 8th grade, I remember staying up late one Sunday night to watch 120 Minutes on MTV. Deftones’ video for “Be Quiet and Drive” came on I was completely mesmerized by the beauty and brutality of that song. 13 years later I am still obsessed with the band because of their ability to grow and evolve with every album. … read more
Napalm Flesh: One Metal Weekend
The weekend of Aug. 20-22 was one filled with metal, as I visited Club Vegas on Friday, the 20th to see Exodus’ March of Brutality tour, and then witnessed the Pentagrammaton tour featuring Enthroned and Destroyer 666 on Sunday at Bar Deluxe. Hopefully some of you metal fiends were at one of these shows at least. If not, you sorely missed some metal madness and mayhem. … read more
Revved Up: 2010 Powder Mountain Motocross- August 19-22
The mellow vibe, scenic landscape, and impending storm combined to make this year’s Powder Mountain Motocross one to remember. The four days of racing began on a rain soaked Thursday and treated the competitors to a mud-fest that tested the skills of even the craftiest riders. … read more
Ghost Riding an Econoline: Spell Talk Cruises Into Craft Lake...
Walking into the home of Spell Talk is like walking onto the set of an independent film about hometown rock heroes on the verge of making it. It’s a Monday night and they all seem to be in a state of semi-recovery from the weekend before. Despite their various states of weekend disrepair, they manage to pull their shit together long enough to make spaghetti dinner with homemade pasta sauce, set the table and pair each meal with a cold can of Olympia beer. … read more

Pivot-butter & Skate-jam Slamwich: S.O.D. Busk Till Dusk
The first event in SLUG’s annual Summer of Death skate competitions, Busk Till Dusk, was hosted on a hot-as-fuck July evening. Skaters from all around Utah gathered in the parking lot behind Burt’s Tiki Lounge to skate on ramps, quarterpipes, boxes and rails, some hand built by the Summer of Death crew and others donated by Ezra Moss of Annex Skate. … read more
CLC Artist: Tommy Dolph
On August 14, you can find Tommy Dolph sitting in a haunted lemonade stand made from the doors of an abandoned house. “I don’t think I’ll have any lemonade for sale … which confuses people,” Dolph says. Although he won’t be selling any delicious lemonade, Dolph will be selling an army of cardboard wizards, creepy monster hands attached to coffin-shaped boards and a collection of hubcap portraits of classic Americana artists like Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings and Elvis Presley. … read more
CLC Artist: Illuminati
ILLUMINATI, a chandelier refurbishing and redecorating collaboration between Natasha Sebring and Callie Capps, has only been functioning since February, 2010, but the work these two ladies are spinning out is nothing short of, well, awesome. Thus far, none of their handiwork has been publicly displayed or sold, but all of that will change at this year’s Craft Lake City. … read more
CLC Artist: Whitney Shaw
It’s difficult to imagine the petite Whitney Shaw working over her 900 lb. 1901 Golding Pearl press, but the unique artwork produced under her brand name Easy Keeper with that iron workhorse is quite tangible. From coasters and cards to notebooks and decorative pillows, this new Craft Lake City artist gives your everyday accessories classy details with a subtle sense of humor. … read more
