Cody Crump = Terminal A + The Cure + Joy Division
Cody Crump’s Death EP was described to me as having the energy of garage rock coupled with sardonic lyrics. I find the former half of this description lacking the definitive raw vitality found in garage.
The latter, however, I discovered to be true and clearly presented through a dark, gloomy, repetitive, fuzz-filled haze of poppy gothic desperation. The gem on this five track EP is “Burn”: This prominent piano-driven number bolsters Crump’s harmonious vocals and leaves a certain aura of dramatic foreboding.
Initially, it’s something that I can overlook, but taking time to properly digest, there is a certain charm to the Death EP. –Nick Kuzmack
